Freedom Weekend...not

Terry was in Utah for three days and I thought I'd have a wild weekend where I could do whatever, and eat whatever, and watch whatever, and wear whatever I wanted.  Not really a wild weekend.  I meant to stay up until 11:00, drink a diet soda without guilt, watch David Letterman for the last time, and wear my pajamas all day, but that dream just didn't work out....

The first night was a school night and I had grading to do.  Friday was a crazy, long day.
My school has an Art Night which is a big production.  Every hall in the school is covered with black paper and student art (I'll post pictures later).  They have high school orchestra students come and play, and have Jr. high students from National Honor Society serving hors d'oeuvres.  I like seeing all the amazing art projects, but they're better viewed an hour before the event.  The halls are too crowded to even move in.  This year our principal wanted as many teachers as were able to come and support the PTO.  I left school at 4:00 to meet my visiting teacher partner for some visits, and then got back in time to get a parking place, and stayed until 8:00.

I was exhausted when I got home.  It was too cold for a diet soda, and I couldn't stay awake. I did sleep in and had a relaxing morning, but Terry was anxious to be home, so he left SLC at 6:00 PM in a snow storm, and cut my freedom weekend short. It was nice going to church with him the next morning, but I'm still longing for a wild weekend of alone time.

Blessing of Cleanliness

I am thankful to live in a time and place where clean water is readily available and modern conveniences make it easy to live clean.  I love bathing every day, washing my hair, washing my hands (a lot), and brushing my teeth.  It’s refreshing.  It’s a blessing.  I love crawling into bed with clean sheets, clothes that are ironed crisp, scrubbed bathrooms, and the shine on newly mopped floors.  I like the tracks left from vacuuming, shampooed carpets, and washed windows.  I like to sweep the front porch and spray off the patio.  Being clean and being surrounded by clean, feels so good.

I didn’t do much spring cleaning, but our houseguests moved out on Friday, so we moved back into our own bed this weekend.  I enlisted the help of Terr and we did two days of summer cleansing before we settled in.  It was good to move things, go through things, eliminate clutter, and organize.  I’m thankful for my home and all my things.  I appreciate everything more when it’s dusted, wiped, scrubbed, and polished.  We’ve worked hard and slept well the last few nights.

Plans

At school I have to write lesson plans for each day.  These are my plans for Spring Break - which by the way, started yesterday and last  night I had a sore throat, and I've been feeling crumby all day - not a great start, but I'm still planning on great things.

I'll have to clean my house, write the primary newsletter, and spend a couple days on report cards, but after that I want to see Dad and Mom, Nan, Andrea, and friends.  Someone should be good for lunch, or a movie.  I have material for 2 baby quilts and a queen sized quilt for my bed.  I want to get at least one of them done.  I want to try a recipe, from Jerry Seinfeld's wife, for chicken sandwiches.  I also have a new cookbook from the sneaky chef, where she adds vegetables to everything, like cauliflower puree to macaroni and cheese.  I want to try a couple of those recipes in an attempt to find some standard recipes that are more healthy.  I also am ordering the patterns for these cute baby shoes that I want to learn how to crochet.  I have four books coming from Amazon on Wednesday so I'll be reading too.  I'd like to learn how to knit and go over to Eugene and see Ty, but I think both of those things will have to wait until summer.

Oh the Places You Can Go

Here are some of the places I love to go and waste time:

I've been wasting time today.  Once again I'm avoiding report cards.  It happens four times a year.

DST

I can't remember ever forgetting about Daylight Savings Time.  Terry is the last person that would ever let that happen.  He has reminders that pop-up on the computer and he's always checking all the details.  For more than a decade he has done all the clock changing in the house and cars.  So imagine my surprise when he realized at 9:45 that it was really 10:45 and he had missed a meeting.  It threw off my whole day.  For some reason, missing that one hour meant that I didn't get papers graded or recorded, I didn't get my lunch packed, I didn't get a chance to blog, and I didn't get a chance to read my book.  I'm blaming Terry.

Heating Up

Our furnace quit working today.  Terry tried to fix it by vacuuming the filters and looking things up on the internet, but finally had to call Jim's Heating and Air Conditioning.  It always happens on the weekend.  We called our friend who works for Jim's, but he was winter camping with the scouts.  (That would be worse than getting called into work on Saturday.)  As it ended up, he was on call this weekend and showed up to help us out anyway.  I really like our friend.  I heard him say once that his hobby was doing service.  He loves to help people out.  That's a real good guy.  So, Terry wasted his whole day messing around with the furnace, but it only cost $100, and we're nice and toasty tonight.
